Minenhle Mfundo Oscar Mashiane, known professionally as Al Xapo and sometimes referred to as “Public Enemy,” is a South African producer and recording artist associated with the Amapiano genre. Born in Mpumalanga and raised in Diepkloof, Soweto, his early years were shaped by a household immersed in music. His parents exposed him to a range of genres, creating an environment that encouraged curiosity and experimentation. At approximately fifteen years old, he began DJing, performing locally before shifting his focus toward music production and songwriting.
During his formative years, Al Xapo explored R&B, neo-soul, Afro-jazz, and Afro-soul influences. Rather than abandoning those styles, he later integrated aspects of them into Amapiano production, giving his work a layered and structured feel. His approach reflects careful arrangement, steady percussion patterns, and detailed transitions between sections.
A major step in his professional development came in 2024 with the release of "Secret Bounce," a collaborative EP created with Tyler ICU. The project introduced him to a broader audience within South Africa’s dance music circuit.
His 2025 single "Snokonoko," featuring Benzoo and EeQue, marked a turning point. The track quickly gained traction across streaming platforms and social media, generating significant listener engagement and widespread dance challenges. Its rapid streaming growth positioned him among the most discussed new producers of that period. In early 2026, he followed with Stance, a collaboration with Benzoo and Optimist Music ZA, further reinforcing his upward trajectory.
Beyond his solo releases, Al Xapo has contributed to prominent Amapiano tracks, including "Ebasini" and "Manzi Nte," associated with Tyler ICU and DJ Maphorisa. These contributions strengthened his reputation as both a collaborator and behind-the-scenes composer.
